The focus of this article is to investigate the popular science discourse of artificial intelligence (AI) from the perspective of contemporary discourse-linguistic analysis of online media. The authors address the currently understudied discourse-linguistic and pragma-linguistic characteristics of podcasts about AI included in the popular science online discourse, which determines the relevance of this study. Along with this, the article considers some theoretical issues related to the definition of the status of popular science and special mediated media discourse, the role of the addressee factor in the process of broadcasting special knowledge. The aim of the article is to analyze the peculiarities of the construction of popular science discourse of artificial intelligence (AI) as a social practice in the German web space. The main objectives of the study include determining the structure of AI podcasts, describing the main characteristics of actors, as well as identifying strategies, tactics, techniques and verbal and non-verbal means in the translation of special knowledge about AI. As a research methodology, the paper uses the DIMEAN multilevel model of discourse-linguistic analysis. In addition, the article uses elements of contextual-semantic and communicative-pragmatic analyses. These methods are supplemented by corpus analysis using the AntConc automatic data processing software. The material for the proposed study is two ZDF podcasts from the series Lanz & Precht and three podcasts about artificial intelligence (KI-Podcast) from the series Wissen, available in the ARD audio library. The corpus of examples includes shownotes, which are brief summaries of the issue and are considered in the paper as a new small-format text type. The article identifies discourse-linguistic strategies, tactics and techniques of popularisation of special knowledge in the field of AI. The age profile of addressees is given, and the forms of actors’ interaction in media and Internet space are described.
