The study reveals the specifics of the text type “perfume review”, a constituent of perfume discourse, and uses a corpus of online media texts devoted to perfumery, published by Russian- and German-speaking authors on the Fragrantica portal. A perfume review is a prepared text which aims at evaluating a perfume composition. This text type also realises additional functions: attractive, phatic, informative, ludic and emotional-expressive. The article attempts to construct a prototypical model of a perfume review. For this purpose, the methodology of compositional and pragmatic text partition was used, and eleven communicative-semantic blocks were identified. The most important of them are the olfactory characteristic block, which describes the sensory and technical parameters of the perfume, the associative block, which represents the reviewer’s personal impressions and images evoked by the fragrance, and the conclusion, which reflects a generalised evaluation. These blocks and framework elements (title, communicative situation, introduction) form the prototypical model of this text type. The multimodal block, which complements the expert’s narration and allows to fully express his impressions, is located separately. The linguocultural specificity of the perfume review is manifested in the uneven distribution of the author’s evaluations on the positive and negative poles: German-speaking experts tend to express mixed and negative evaluations, unlike Russian-speaking experts, where positive evaluations dominate. Individual author’s style defines other peculiarities of this texts: some reviewers avoid taking into account the commercial component when reviewing a fragrance and emphasise personal feelings and associations, while others consider a perfume composition like a commercial product, taking into account its cost, design and technical characteristics.
