Abstract

The article explores the potential of focus particles in German science discourse. It gives an analysis of focus particles in scientific communication with their syntactic, semantic, and information structural properties based on pragmatic knowledge and the discourse context of the article. The study shows that focus particles present a special way of an implicit ego-reference, relying on the egocentric categorical semantics, linked to the sphere of the speaker.
