CRITERIA OF THE STUDY OF PRECEDENT NAMES IN THE MASS MEDIA DISCOURSE
Abstract
It is possible to study the functioning of precedent names in the discourse of German mass media on the grounds of particular criteria. The present article dwells on the empathized examination of the morphological, derivational, syntactical and punctuation peculiarities of the use of precedent names in the mass media discourse, the particular attention is given to their synonymous and attributive potentials. Precedent names tend to outstand above the textual background due to deflexures in their manifestation: usage in number and gender extrinsic to the proper names, usage of the definite article, integration into the text by means of quotation marks. Precedent names tend to take up specific syntactical positions; in particularity, the position of the “semantic predicate” can be proper for them. They are able to form derivates, which possess the status of the precedent phenomena too. The article is concerned with the capability of precedent names to substitute each other in the text, this way they can show their synonymic properties.
