V.G.ADMONI’S COMMUNICATIVE CONCEPT OF SENTENCE IN THE SCIENTIFIC PARADIGM OF MODERN LINGUISTICS
Abstract
The aim of the article is to theoretically justify and illustrate the relevance of a multifaceted approach to the analysis of the main structural, “thought-forming” and communicative unit of language and speech — namely, the sentence — in the scientific heritage of V.G.Admoni. The research is based on the material of question-like statements taken from modern German-language scientific articles on Germanic philology and literary studies. Language material can be structured according to the vectors of communicative transformations of interrogatives. The structures still retain the external markers of being interrogative, but given the interaction of the utterance content with its context and the presence of lexical markers of modal propositional attitudes, the intention to request information takes second place, giving way to the accentual division of the text within the overall macrostrategy of assertiveness, to rhetorical statements, to the argumentative impact, and to maintaining a dialogue with the reader. Question-like headings are considered separately. The article also discusses the specifics of how interrogative statements function in a strong position of the text. The main method used is the method of contextual-semantic and functional-communicative analysis. Theoretical generalizations on aspects and the score-like structure of the sentence as a “chord” of the speech chain are arranged on the basis of the collected empirical material and confirm that Admoni’s theses remain relevant in the modern communicative linguistics and can be used to solve current theoretical and didactic problems of linguistics.
